Therapeutic Modalities

What Type Of Therapeutic Modalities Do We Utilize?

These muscular therapeutic modalities will be used in conjunction with care at the doctor’s discretion. We primarily utilize Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization, Kinesiology Tape, and Electrical Muscle Stimulation (or EMS).

SoftWave TRT

SoftWave TRT (Tissue Regenerative Therapy) is an effective approach to healing the human body using acoustic waves to stimulate your body's natural processes for self repair. Inside of the applicator head, SoftWaves are created through the use of an electrode contained within a soft latex dome filled with water. When charged with electricity, the electrode creates a spark under the water. This spark creates a hot bubble of gas that expands into the surrounding water and produces the SoftWave that travels out of the applicator and into the affected area being treated. These high energy acoustic waves penetrate deep into damaged tissue resulting in increased mobility and significant reduction of inflammation and pain. Most importantly, the brain reacts by sending stem cells to the area to repair the damaged tissue. Additionally, new blood vessels form and deliver healthy blood and nutrients to the area for faster healing. Common musculoskeletal conditions we see in our practice include:

The typical number of treatments necessary for these musculoskeletal pain pathologies is between 6 and 12 treatments. The recommended treatment protocol is to perform the first two treatments in the first week, two more treatments the second week, and then one treatment per week until the desired outcome. Treating pain pathologies with electrohydraulic waves or true shockwaves delivers better outcomes with fewer treatments and pulses at lower energy levels than other shockwave devices. The down regulation of the inflammatory response is nearly immediate as is also the accompanying elimination of pain which is what most patients recognize and appreciate in the short term but should not be confused with long term healing and remodeling. Beginning with the first treatment and continuing with each subsequent treatment, the shockwaves are triggering the migration of stem cells to the area to further repair damaged tissue over a 12 week period. While short term results are realized during the first 30 days, complete treatment outcomes should be evaluated after stem cells have completed their work more than 4 months from the first treatment.

Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization

This is a manual therapy technique used to complement and enhance results. The doctor uses an instrument to help break up muscle and fascial adhesions that form with chronic overuse or trauma. It can be a very effective technique to help get over chronic conditions or help patients get back to their normal activities quicker and with less discomfort.

Kinesiology Tape

Kinesiology tape is a fairly new technology that has many different uses. It has been shown to help with lymphatic drainage during acute injury, allow for proper muscle activation, and provide stability during activity.

Electrical Muscle Stimulation

Electric muscle stimulation, also known as EMS or E-stim, is a process where electric currents are sent through muscles in order to make them contract. Many chiropractors utilize superficial electric muscle stimulation where the currents are delivered via small pads that stick to the skin. EMS is especially beneficial during the injury rehabilitation process. When the muscles contract during the electric stimulation, the patient experiences pain and tension relief and a reduction in swelling. E-stim is utilized very frequently for those who are working to recover from an injury because it can speed up the recovery process.
